May Monthly Plot: Election.

Plot: Election
So, it’s been a year since the third member of the Council, Annie, was revealed to be an AI who had been highjacked by sentient moss that wanted to spread itself across the different universes to basically live there. The Moss also infected the Sphere and it was a thing. However, now Laurie our resident doctor is sick of doing all the extra work in the town, and has called for an open election to fill the new council seat.

How this works ICly:
  • On May 11th, Laurie will put out a post calling for nominations for people to join the council. She will announce that you can nominate anyone you wish to.
  • She will describe the position as: someone who helps oversee what the community needs: businesses, festival events, and possible crises and legal issues that crop up. She will also say that the person should be responsible and willing to do this.
  • Laurie will also ask that people nominate and vote on someone outside the council so that no one can say any funny business happened.
  • People who are nominated should either accept or reject the nomination and give a campaign speech.
  • Voting will take place by a sealed, private ballot in the infirmary.
  • Elections results will be announced May 30th.

How this works OOCly:
  • There will be a nomination post on the OOC community that opens on May 11th for people to have their characters nominate other characters. All nominations must be accepted by both the character and the player.
  • The nomination post will close OOCly on May 24th to give players ample time to vote.
  • The voting will work via poll in the OOC com (I will be giving the mod account one month paid to do this.)
  • The poll results and who voted how will be hidden until the 30th.

  • You may vote one time per character, but only with characters who are currently in game. Any votes from characters not in the game will be discounted. As will any character vote that is dropped before the IC election period is over.
  • Characters who are on hiatus may vote.

OOC Questions and answers:
  • What does this mean for the player on the OOC level? Is this going to involve any massive time commitment from me?

The short answer is: probably not. The two NPCs can probably handle things if you need them too. However, if you want to have your character weigh in on an issue or present any new ideas we can do them in a discord chat or PM, whichever you prefer.
  • What happens if I drop the character or the game?

If you drop the character or the game, then the seat goes vacant until Laurie gets annoyed again, and new elections happen.
  • Can my character engage in any shenanigans in order to get elected?

Of course! What’s the good of having an election if there’s not some intrigue. Talk to other players and figure it out! Just remember to okay everything with one another.
  • What happens if I want to engage in shenanigans and want my character to be found out?

Player plot! Come to me with ideas and we’ll figure it out!
  • What happens if another character does something and my character would want to change their vote?

Then you have until the 30th to do so! Votes aren’t set in stone until the election’s over!
  • What happens if my character normally wouldn’t vote?

Then they don’t have to vote! No big deal. There will be a screened place to comment on the voting page that says that they chose not to vote. Please use this so I know who’s voted and who hasn’t.
  • Okay, but what if I want to have someone make them vote?

Well, then Laurie, Max or Jon can stare at them until they do go vote. Remembering they’re intimidating and stuff! Or Max can bribe them with free booze or food in order to vote. Note: None of the NPCs will have any personal stake in the election and will not be voting. So there will be no pressure that way.
