August Plot: The Walls Close in.

August Plot: The Walls Close in.
So living in a domed city under the sea is great, isn’t it? The domes move around and expand whenever needed, they always open whenever you want them to and they provide your food and water and entertainment all for you. As well as your places to sleep.

But what if...they didn’t? What if they stopped doing that? Well, you’re going to find out because this month's plot is: The Walls are Closing in on you. It is important to read this plot as it will fundamentally change how the setting in Sphere is going to work for the next two months. The most important thing to know about this plot is how characters ICly respond to it will determine what happens next.

How this works
Starting August 5th the domes will stop changing and expanding. This means that no new domes will open and the abandoned domes will stop getting bigger. It also means that the Sphere is now entirely able to be mapped for those who were looking to do that. But.

August 8th: the abandoned domes themselves will disappear. When people try to go and find them, instead they will find that there is no pathway. On the other side of the glass there will be no sign of the abandoned domes that were ever there. It’s the same deep darkness of the sea that the rest of the domes have. (Mod note: the dragon is fine. She can be found in the agricultural dome. For now.)

August 11th: Dorm three will be missing. Baz and Simon, your stuff will be able to be found in Dome 309. No new characters will be able to move into Dorm 3 for the duration of the event.

August 13th: The recreational dome goes missing, and the large space where it was is filled in, almost as if someone has smooshed the two domes on either side together and neither was ever there. Mod note: At this point there is a council meeting, and the council will start stockpiling food and supplies from prior emergencies in each large dome.

August 15th Personal domes and double occupancy domes start to disappear. People can either volunteer their domes for a set day or I can RNG them. (If you have a preference, please you the text box below.) The domes will disappear at a rate of three a day throughout the rest of the event until they are gone. Within the city there is a generalized sense of panic.

August 17th: The Merchant dome (including the Black Market disappears.)

August 19th: The Industrial domes disappear, along with the train that traveled between all domes. The distance between the domes is now simply a long walk through them. People are becoming crammed into what space there is.

August 21st: The only dome left standing and accessible is the Agricultural dome. The Dome that controls the air and the water filtration systems is still present, but it’s no longer connected by any visible means between the other Dome. But at least the lights are on, so it’s probably working right? Also glowing in the Distance is the dome of the Sphere itself, which is likewise blocked off.

The Agricultural Dome is basically set up like a refugee camp. There are small tents for people, and the Council has been placing stockpiles of food and water and bedding and what not since the domes had started disappearing. Food is prepared in a communal way, with people cooking large pots of food. It’s not fancy, but it at least tastes good, and people can eat their fill. As the time passes, however, people grow increasingly concerned about the fact that the Domes aren’t coming back.

And the food and the water (and blood for those who need it) is rapidly running out.

August 25th The Council starts to ration food at this point, but things are going to deteriorate within the Dome very quickly. See, this would have been a good idea for them to allow a police force. But they can think about that later. In the meantime, people are trying to steal and control whatever food they can. The fruit trees and anything even being close to being harvested from the ground are scavenged.

August 28th. Widespread fighting begins to break out in the Dome. Remember there are hundreds of people within the city other than the player characters. They are forming factions, player characters can choose to join, or they can choose to try and protect the food or whatever. It’s entirely up to you. But hey, at least the water is still fine right?

August 31st: The lights in the Dome containing the Sphere and the air and water filtration system go out. The water slows to a trickle, and the air is going to get pretty stuffy pretty fast. (This leads to the September plot.)

Questions on what's happening:
  • Is there any way to opt out of this plot?

In short? Not really. The plot is fundamentally changing how the game and its setting works for the next two months.

  • How is this plot going to actually work?

There will be two different logs, much like we normally have during normal months. The first will go up on August fifth and will be open to people as they are still dealing with their personal domes missing, etc, for things that are happening early in the month. The second will go up August 20th, which will be for characters in the agricultural domes. This is to give people plenty of time to forward date, back date and otherwise engage in the plot. Should people wish, they may also do catch alls of their own.

Additionally, there will also be posts from the Council NPCs as various things go down and the Sphere keeps becoming smaller and smaller.

  • What happens if my character is inside the dome when it disappears?

They are deposited into the agricultural dome, even when the other domes are still active.

  • What happens to my character's stuff?

Well, other than the clothes on their back or anything on their person, it’s gone for the moment. Please be reasonable and only have the things they would actually carry around in their day to day on them. Getting it back is going to rely on the characters and their decisions in August and September.

  • What happens if my characters die during this plot?

They respawn in the agricultural dome. Even if their personal dome is still operational.

  • What happens to the animals in town when the food is running out?

They are actually fine and don’t seem to require any food or water when they becomes scarce. They will actually actively refuse it. Including the dragon. No animals were harmed in the making of this plot etc. Edited to make more clear: the only animals within the Sphere are people's pets that they acquired through AC stuff. They are fine without food or water.

  • Can my characters investigate what’s going on?

Of course they can! There will be things that they can discover, not only about what’s happening now but also what’s happening with the larger game as a whole.

  • Is there a point to this plot?

Of course there is. By the end of September, characters will know exactly what is happening with the Sphere, why they are here, and how they can directly affect what’s going on.

  • What about other important domes what will it mean for this disappearing (the infirmary, the school, player businesses, etc)?

When it comes to the infirmary, it’s gone. When putting up supplies, Laurie and John will have added medical supplies as well, but they are limited. Player businesses are completely gone for the moment unless the characters have made arrangements for their stuff to be stored with the emergency supplies. Please remember that this is likely to be a very small amount of things. The characters will need to have convinced Max, Laurie or Rhy to let them keep things with the emergency food, water and medical supplies.

  • You mentioned factions?

Yes, these can be NPC or player run. It’s up to you. Would your characters hoard food? Would they try and make things easier for everyone? It’s up to them to make these moral decisions for themselves. Fighting among player character groups is up to the players involved to remember that IC actions have IC consequences.

  • Are they really going to run totally out of food?

Well, that entirely depends on them and September.

  • Does the agricultural dome have enough bathrooms/showers/etc? Yes. There is enough sanitation working that they don’t need to worry about that. Depending on how well things are going, their clothing may smell a little bit, but is that really the most important problem right now?

What about pets? Is it the same for them as it is for the other animals? They're fine and they don't require food or water?

*pops in*

Yo. Anything I need to know for Rhy beyond the above stuff? Discussions they might need to have or any public communications you have a general outline for but haven't written yet that I can help with? Rhy's gonna be SUPER FUCKING FOCUSED on this shit i love that he literally has experience with weird shit like this, right down to the fighting we're going to be seeing

Also I promsie to try and keep my eyes on things so that people can try to appeal to Rhy about storing things with Emergency Supplies for all that he's nice, people might have a difficult time convincing him, but if you notice something I don't hit in a day or so, I don't mind if you ping me on Discord.
