Plot: Choices.
Choices Plot
As of September first where we end up is this: the dome is without power and no power means that the oxygen filtration is no longer running. More than that, without the power, the domes are going to start getting very very cold. But all hope is not lost: due to an act of kindness during the ghost plot, a ghost of the Sphere’s past came to Enis and told her that if people wanted to be saved then they were going to need to save themselves. The saving themselves however, comes with great cost and the possibility of a great sacrifice being needed. Additionally, Annie opened the doorways so that Enis could open them for other people but with a caveat: they can only be opened once. From this side anyway.
The most important thing about this plot is that how it is resolved is up to the characters. Their actions will directly affect what happens next.
There are four different parts of this plot, so that everyone with every different type of character will have something to do. As with last month, there is no ignoring this plot.
Generalized information for the trips to the Air Filtration system and the Power system
- The trip to each of these places will take multiple days at least ten to get there and back.
- If characters die before everything gets turned back on, they die until the end of the plot.
- Due to the amount of characters possibly involved, these logs will be self directed with a few monster/danger prompts listed.
- The logs will go up 9/5/20 to allow people some time for plotting.
- There will be supplies and medical kits every so often. Think of it like that room before a boss fight. No deaths should be caused by dehydration or starvation.
- Communication devices only work within each group of people. Once the door shuts, there is no connection to anyone within the remaining Dome.
The Left Choice: The oxygen filtration system
The left path is going to lead people through a series of tubes and air filters in order to get to the oxygen filtration unit. Once there they will need to figure out how to turn it back on.
Of course the trip itself will be fraught with dangers. Many things lurk in the tubes.
Things that it’s likely that people will deal with on their way to the power station and within the tubes:
- Deadly animals that have lived in the tubes for millennia including giant spiders, occipi, sirens, poisonous bugs, and possibly people.
- Generalized danger. These tubes are millennia old and exist under the sea. There is going to be things like broken corridors, places where the floor isn’t secure etc.
- They will also need to figure out how to to turn this on. It is not as easy as simply flipping a switch.
Who would be good on this team choice:
- Fighters
- Characters who are mechanically inclined
- Characters who are fast
- Magical characters
The log for this can be found here
The right choice: the power station
The right path is the path that leads to the power station, what you can expect to find on this journey.
- Like above there are its shares of monsters and structural instability.
- This path is more of a mental exercise.
- What do you fear?
- What is it that you don’t want to experience?
- What secrets do you want kept?
- As people get closer to the power station things will become more intense. They will be most intense around the button which is all it takes to start the power back up.
Types of characters who would do best in this scenario:
- Those strong willed.
- Fighters
- Magic users
The choice: staying behind
Three days after the groups to the power and air systems leave one third of the population simply disappears into thin air. It’s an assortment of people: some that are good, some that are bad but all of them just disappear at the exact same moment in the middle of the day while waiting for the lunch rations. Anything they were holding is dropped, but the people are just gone in whatever they were doing. About two hundred people gone in the blink of an eye. It’s like they were never there in the first place.
Then the next day it happens again, a smaller number, 30 this time but definitely just disappearing around breakfast. And so it goes until the teams return.
On one hand, this is a good thing, isn’t it? More supplies and oxygen for the rest of you. Sure it’s cold, but not deathly so. Sure the air is thin, but it’s not enough to kill you. Yet. So you have the option: Investigate what is happening or not.
How this works:
- A log will go up on 9/8/20 for this. It will be mostly self directed with a few prompts.
- All of the characters who are disappearing are NPCs. No player characters disappear in this way.
- The faction like behavior is something that can continue if players would like it to. But in general it’s definitely died down as people keep disappearing.
The Last Ditch Choice: The Sphere.
After the second day of people going missing, Anne will appear on the network and explain to those remaining that they have no choice other than to save themselves. In an effort to do that, Annie herself will open the pathway directly to the Sphere in an effort to let the population attempt to reason with it and to see if it can bring the other domes back and make sure those who have gone through can safely do what they need to do and return.
- The log for this will also go up on 9/8/20.
- This is the only log that will be NPCed by me.
- There is an element of additional choice here: do you trust Annie to lead you through the path to get there?
- Do you think you’re going mad or that this is hopeless?
- Did you lose faith that any of this is real?
- Those who are good at talking/communicating
- Some action people.
- People who think they can make a difference.
Shea!
Player Contact:
What choice will this character make?: Ahem, she will be going to the sphere.
Additional Plot Ideas: Sansa's quite diplomatic and would be a wonderful choice for anyone speaking with the Sphere. Ya'll can have your swords, she'll take her words.
Character Name: Eponine Thenardier User name:
What choice will this character make?: the right choice.
Additional Plot Ideas: Eponine is notoriously stubborn, and will tell you all she's not afraid of anything. Of course, she really forgets being forgotten which is an abstract fear. She believes the worst monsters are people anyway. Look, she doesn't want to sit home and do nothing. That's boring.
